Our Projects
Thailand is located in Southeast Asia where it is blessed with the abundance of incredible fauna and flora making Thailand one of the most unique ecosystems of the world. Thailand has a mixed economy system where automotive industry and food industry are highly valued. It’s also ranked the 13th as a global food exporter entitling it as one of the most crucial food sources. Hence, food industry in Thailand is undoubtedly a strength of the kingdom.
The multicultural southernmost region of Thailand comprises of three provinces; namely, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat with 85% of the population identifying themselves as a Muslim. The region is also considered one of the most abundant land and coastal areas in Thailand, yet it is the poorest economically, which makes it exemplarily suitable for permacultural centers that are compatible with the local’s way of life.
Pulang Kampong Foundation aims to establish “Learning Centers” where academic research and training on permaculture and organic agricultural and aquacultural practices could be provided to the local, particularly farmers and students in religious institutions. Currently, the region has 409 private religious institutions with almost 250,000 students.
Pulang Kampong Foundation values diversity and only aims to propel projects that are harmonious with personal faiths and beliefs as well as fostering the local economy without overlooking the local culture. Our goal is to establish a community network under the platform “One Family One Sufficiency Economy” where one successful family leads to another, extending into several family networks, where sufficient and quality agricultural and aquacultural produce can sustain both a household economy as well as a community economy which would blossom into the entrepreneurship of quality and culturally significant halal food from Thailand on a global stage.
At present, our ongoing projects are as follows:
1. Learning Center for Agriculture
1.1 Ibuetae Learning Center (Location: Chang Phueak Sub-District, Chanae District, Narathiwat Province with the initial land area of 675 rai)
Pulang Kampong Foundation and Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO), who operates under the brand “Thai-Denmark” which has long been respected as quality dairy products of Thailand with significant history of international cooperation between Thailand and Denmark, have signed an MOU on a dairy farming project by following the principles of Sufficiency Economy, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) with the aim to establish a dairy halal enterprise for the southernmost provinces.
1.2 Igros Learning Center (Location: Igros Village, Cha Nae District, Narathiwat Province with the initial land area of 756 rai)
The goal for this project is to promote and provide training for local goat farmers such as grass-fed goat meat and dairy products as well as the nationally famed “Betong” chicken from the region. Additionally, organic coffee and cocoa plantations would also be introduced to conventional rubber tree farms which no longer yield, and to be a platform where an artisan coffee and cocoa brand could be initiated. In this project, Pulang Kampong Foundation has officially established academic and research co-operations with the Department of Livestock of Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand as well as academics on botany and forestry from local universities.
(The project is currently in the process of organizing an official public hearing)
1.3 Learning Center for Integrated Rice Farming (Location: Yarang Sub-district, Pattani with the initial land area of 300 rai)
The goal for this project is to conduct an experiment on integrated rice farming where local fruit trees and herbs could sustainably grow alongside without harming one another in order to utilize land use as well as producing quality food items according to geographically indications (GI) such as Pattani pomelo
2. Ban Prang Learning Center (Location: Ta Kam Cham Sub-District, Nong Chik District, Pattani Province with the initial land area of 250 rai)
The goal for this learning center is to promote and produce a sustainable sea farm instead of conventional small-boat fishing in the sea.
Pulang Kampong aims to promote and provide an alternative to conventional fishing where coral reefs and sea lives are often affected and overfished as well as the local sea farmers having to risk their lives in a small boat into the deep sea to make a living.
At present, our current giant tiger prawn farm headed by Dr. Jesukanor Benjama, our aquaculture expert, is the first and the only one in Thailand that successfully implements local Thai herbs for prawn feeds along with probiotics. The sea farm itself also incorporates the use of renewable energy such as wind power. The farm is also approved and certified by Ministry of Agriculture of Thailand for safety standards. Currently, we do not have the capacity to suffice the demand from both in Thailand and abroad, but we are looking forward to further development including the use of solar technology on seafood preserves.
